Students present first year results

In May of 2023, Kira and Jocelyn presented on results of the summer field work and many months of lab work looking into the impacts of fire and grazing on forage, soils, wildlife and plant communities in the Bull Mountains.  Key differences are already showing up in terms of soil conditions, the production of crude protein and lignin within forage between sites that vary based on pine thinning and fire history.

While a full report from project findings if forthcoming, these data are the baseline from which future years will be compared as the land continues to recover from catastrophic wildfire.

This summer, student from the 2014 course will present findings to the ranching families and local agency personnel in the hope that our data highlight the value of partnerships to address the threat of wildfire on livestock producers in the region.
